How to Create E-commerce Product Images With AI — Complete Guide

Professional product photography used to mean expensive studio sessions, hired photographers, and days of post-processing. AI has changed that. Here's how to create marketplace-ready product images in minutes — using only your phone and an AI tool.

Step 1: Take a Good Reference Photo

You don't need a DSLR. A smartphone photo in decent lighting is enough. The AI uses your reference for product shape, color, and texture — then re-renders it in the scene you describe.

Tips: Use natural window light, shoot against a plain background, get at least one sharp front-facing shot.

Step 2: Choose Your Scene Type

What kind of image do you need? The most common e-commerce formats:

  • White Background — Amazon/Etsy main image, clean product on pure white.
  • Lifestyle — Product in a natural setting (kitchen, office, outdoors).
  • Detail / Macro — Close-up texture and material shots.
  • Flat Lay — Overhead product arrangement with props.

Step 3: Write a Good Prompt

The AI prompt is where the magic happens. A good prompt includes: camera angle, lighting setup, background, materials, and style keywords.

Example: "Product on a marble counter, soft morning window light from left, shallow depth of field, ceramic texture visible, warm 4500K color temperature, commercial product photography style, 4K."

Step 4: Generate Multiple Variations

Generate 4-6 images at once. Test different angles and styles. AI generation is fast and inexpensive — it's better to generate more and curate the best ones than to try to nail the perfect prompt on the first try.

Step 5: Download and Use

AI Creative Lab exports at 2K or 4K resolution. Most marketplaces accept 2K for product images. Download your favorites and upload directly to your listings.
